Resilience Amidst Adversity: Words to Inspire
The advent of COVID-19 sent shockwaves across the globe, forever altering the course of our lives. I vividly recall strolling through the desolate streets of downtown Accra during the peak of lockdowns, where the bustling city had been silenced. It was an unthinkable transformation as if the world had come to a standstill.
We all bore the brunt of this formidable curse. My design work ground to a sudden halt, businesses hit pause, and regrettably, some of my closest friends lost their jobs. The relentless barrage of news on death, suffering, and despair became unbearable.
Emerging from the Rubble
Fast forward to 2022, we find ourselves reconstructing our lives from the ground up, one brick at a time, using the remnants of our shattered existence. Those of us fortunate enough to have endured are now tasked with the colossal undertaking of not just reclaiming our former lives but surpassing them.
Strength in Unity
In our pursuit, we rely on the support of those around us – friends, family, and well-wishers who can offer us the encouragement and assistance we need. Help comes in many forms – be it financial, emotional, or inspirational.
The Power of Words
This typographic project draws its inspiration from human resilience, which has allowed us to rebound from numerous calamities, including the Spanish flu and two world wars. Each of these challenges reshapes the way we navigate the future. Words, as a formidable tool, have the ability to uplift the human spirit. Hence, a wealth of wise quotes, speeches, and essays have been preserved to serve as a wellspring of encouragement when we need it most.
I’ve meticulously crafted short phrases with the potential to ignite a sense of love, care, and empowerment when people view these artworks. All the typography is infused with the essence of my African heritage, using simple shapes, patterns, textures, and vibrant colours to breathe life into the words. These words aim to leap from the pages and resonate deeply within the heart.
