Illustration of a happy Steve Wright behind an old radio set

I am heartbroken to hear about the passing of BBC Radio 2 presenter Steve Wright. His show ‘Sunday Love Songs’ brought so much joy, peace, and love into our lives. My wife and I used to listen to him whenever we could access the internet.

Radio in Ghana on Sundays can get incredibly chaotic, but Steve’s program was a source of sanity for us. He knew which songs to play to warm the heart and what to say to soothe the soul. The messages of love that poured in from listeners were so well-crafted that they made us fall in love all over again. Our faith in love never wavered.

I first listened to Steve in the late nineties on the BBC World Service on a show called ‘Wright Around the World’. He was energetic, passionate, and connected people all over the world, and my brother even got a pen pal from one of his shows.

Although I never got to know him personally, his work was so exceptional that we found a place for him in our hearts.

Steve Wright will be greatly missed.

P.S. I have a close relationship with the radio, but I will write about that another time.
